Description

This hands-on workshop will help you start—and finish!—that novel you’ve been brainstorming for years now. You know the one—you’ve been thinking about it for forever, telling yourself you’ll get to writing just as soon as you can carve out more time. But when you do sit down at your computer, panic sets in. This workshop is for you!

In our session, we’ll identify key barriers to getting started with writing, the main obstacles that keep us from maintaining momentum and focus, and five important strategies for crossing the finish line and completing a first full draft of a manuscript.

Along the way, we’ll touch on some of the elements that make for a compelling narrative—and explore how to write by instinct while also being an effective editor of your own work.

This is an introductory session, intended to encourage and inspire writers of all backgrounds and skill levels.

Registrants are invited to submit one of the following items to the instructor no less than one week before the workshop takes place. It’s your choice which one to send, and you don’t have to share anything if you’d rather just show up! But you might get more out of the workshop if you share material in advance. Your materials will not be shared with other participants, only with the instructor.

Option 1: A sample section of the novel you are currently working on (maximum 5 pages double spaced)

Option 2: One or two paragraphs explaining why you want to take this class and what you hope to get out of it.
