First Novels

"Learn how to take a manuscript from publication to marketing to publicity to finding a literary agent. This panel addresses the process of publishing a first novel. I have published “Ibo’s Landing. A Novel” with Austin Macauley Press in 2023. Since then, I have marketed my book through book signings and book readings, and I hired a publicist in August 2024. Now I have a literary agent."

Catherine Burroughs has taught British literature and drama in college for thirty years. She is also a professional actress and a member of Actors’ Equity Association. She has published nine books—academic and commercial. Her latest academic book, “The Routledge Anthology of Women’s Theatre and Dramatic Criticism” (2023), received the Jury’s Prize from the New York Public Library and The Center for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. Her first novel, “Ibo’s Landing. A Novel,” was published by Austin Macauley Press in 2023.
